Mangalore: The Amritanandamayee bands of social workers have regularly conducted campaigns to clean up several areas in Mangalore, as at Central Market and Panambur beach. Now on Sunday last, September.25, the volunteers of AMMA went to the river-front of Sultan Battery, near Bunder and Bokkapatna/Bolur, to clean up river sides and approach roads, unlike MCC staff that works only on main roads of the coastal city these days, leaving a lot of litter in heaps, by road sides.
Amma has a dream of “clean, beautiful and healthy Hindustan (India)”, before her and has inspired her followers to undertake cleanliness drives on beaches and roads in Mangalore. The self-sacrificial labour ritual is conducted with Rotary Club members’ assistance. Indeed, Rotary chief, Rajendra Kalbavi steered the can of cleanliness on Sunday.
Several public organizations were represented in this public service, to purify pert areas in Bolur. Several noted leaders, like Mangalamitra, Dr.Jeevaraj Sorake, Dr.Y.Sanath Hegde, Vishwanath Puthran (co-ordinator), Madhav Suvarna, Sudhakar Bhat among others, participated in the occasional ritual on cleanliness, to remind people of a clean city, attracting foreign ship-loads of tourist now.
