Udupi: The Pejawar Swamiji on Thursday clarified while talking to press persons here that he was under no pressure at all from anyone, in regard to the ‘oath taking contest’ entered by ex-CM and the present CM.
The seer was attending a private function, when newsmen surrounded him, and he obligingly stated that stated that he had only people’s welfare in mind, while trying to dissuade the two leaders from entering a shrine to settle their political dispute.
His mediation was for peace and not for more quarrels, and the question of outside pressure on him does not arise here. He pronounced that in democratic rule, declaring before God in a temple “on oath” was not called for.
That is why he spoke both to Yeddyurappa (CM) and H.D.Kumaraswamy (ex-CM) against their intended contest in Dharmasthala, even under rules prescribed by the shrine officer. If CM avoids the oath, HDK also will withdraw from such an exercise, seer was told by phone.
CM has agreed to be in Dharmasthala on June 26 but to pray. HDK has preferred to wait till June 27, to adopt the same path, of praying to God without oath-taking. Pilgrims are now eager to know more on June 27.
