Mangalore: The Atomic Energy Commission chairman Dr. Srikumar Banerjee, speaking at the 30th annual Convocation ceremony at Mangalore University in Konaje on Thursday called for due attention, to a development of Indian Technology, Human Resources qualitative improvement, fuel, education and ecology, to be paid to face world level problems in future.
He was delivering the Keynote address in a distinguished gathering. Scientific research should not be limited to satiate curiosity, but it has to help social needs also, he added.
In coming days, population in many developing countries rises, but global ecology has to be protected while feeding them, he cautioned. The electricity(power) generation and fuel resources also could pose problems before youths to solve them satisfactorily, he said.
Presently, atomic power is 3% of all available power used in India, which is capable of more such usage.
Honorary doctorates were conferred on Dr. S. Banerjee, Erya LN Alva, and Dr. M. Govinda Rao by CM DVS Gowda, who was deputy Chancellor, as Chancellor H.R. Bhardwaj was not present. 44 doctorate degrees, 17 M. Phils., 35 gold medals, and 57 cash prizes were awarded.
Prof. T.C. Shivashankar Murthy Welcomed the gathering. It is the first time here, a CM was present at MU Convocation in 30 years.
