Mangalore: MLA UT Khader said that the tension is prevailing students on the entrance exam for admission of diploma students’ through lateral entry to engineering colleges.
He was speaking at the press meet held at District Congress Committee office on June 6, Wednesday. He also said that
around 40 per cent of diploma holders in 300 polytechnics in Karnataka join various engineering courses through lateral entry and taking advantage of this many coaching centres in state provides coaching classes charging high fee to students although the authorities including the KEA has not announced any exam date.
The state conducting the exam is also not sure, coaching classes have commenced in various places including Mangalore.
Khader also said that the authorities are been pressurized by ‘coaching mafia’ to conduct exams since coaching classes are going on though the admission procedures of All-India Council of Technical Education (AICTE)’s handbook for 2012-12 stating diploma holders to be admitted to engineering courses through lateral entry depend on their diploma marks.
He also urged Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda to intervene into this ‘coaching mafia’ and declare government’s stand on the exams in order to benefit thousands of students.
