Mangaluru : Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Savitribai Phule evacuated a Chinese crew Hong Jiangyu, 31 from Motor Tanker (MT) Sea Dragon, 25-km off Mangaluru on Tuesday. MT Sea Dragon, a Liberia registered 230 metres long LPG carrier was cruising from Singapore to Fujairah, UAE. The ship reported that Hong Jiangyu, boilerman had sustained injury on the index finger of his right hand and needed immediate evacuation.
On receipt of information, Coast Guard Karnataka headquarters at Mangaluru diverted ICGS Savitribai Phule, to render assistance at 7.15am. The vessel commanded by commandant Manish Kumar proceeded with maximum speed and reached alongside MT Sea Dragon at 7.40am and dispatched its medical team, which found Hong Jiangyu had serious injury on index finger of his right hand. After providing first aid, he was shifted to ICGS Savitribai Phule safely.
Thereafter, the Coast Guard ship arrived at New Mangalore harbour and handed him over to shipping agent for further medical treatment at 8.50am. Deputy Inspector General S S Dasila, the commander, Coast Guard Karnataka expressed his satisfaction over the swift medical evacuation of the injured Chinese crew and stated that every life at sea is precious and Coast Guard will make all out efforts to safeguard life and property at sea using all its assets.
