Kasaragod: Coastalwood film actor Surendra Shetty Bantwal, who allegedly assaulted BJP workers with a sword in Baddakatte last week, was arrested along with his aide Sathish at Kumble here on Thursday June 21st.
Mr. Shetty had allegedly on June 1 Surendra had allegedly attacked Ganesh and Pushparaj and was absconding since then.
Monday June 11 afternoon at around 1 pm, Surendra and his gang had allegedly ttacked BJP workers Ganesh, Charan, Pushparaj and others who were in a restaurant at Baddakatte with swords. Surendra Shetty and his accomplices also allegedly hurled expletives at BJP workers, it is being said.
Surendra’s gang allegedly attacked Bajrang Dal member Bhuvith Shetty’s gang, allegedly in retaliation over an attack by the latter at a salon on June 10th.
Surendra Bantwal was a rowdy-sheeter and was identified with a right-wing organization in the past and had joined Congress recently. He has also acted in the Tulu film ‘Chaali Polilu’. Previously, a video showing the actor threatening with a sword and hurling expletives had gone viral in social media.
A special police team arrested the accused on getting credible information that Surendra and his aide Sathish were in Kumble. A case was registered at Bantwal town police station. The others arrested in relation to this case include Deepak, Pavan, Shailesh and Ranjith, while Tilak, Manohar and Pradeep are absconding.
