Belthangady: In a tragic incident, a college student committed suicide by jumping into a well on Saturday at about 3 am at Kokradi in the taluk.

The deceased has been identified as Sushmitha Kokradi (17). It is said that she had been selected for the state-level Kho-Kho tournament.

She had recently participated in the district-level Kho-Kho tourney held at Capitanio College, Mangaluru recently; she played well and was selected for the state level.

It is said that last night she went off to sleep after dinner with her family. However, on Saturday morning, when her family began to search for her, they found her body in a well nearby.

Love failure is suspected to be the reason behind the suicide. The Venur police and Tahsildar of Belthangady, Tipeswamy visited the spot. A case was registered.

As soon as the news of Sushmitha’s death spread, her College Principal, lecturers, students and neighbours paid a visit to her house and offered condolences.
