Mangalore: Various programmes were organized at Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (SDM) Law College premises on September 3, Saturday, as part of Onam festival celebrations 2011.
Kerala High Court Judge N.K. Balakrishnan, addressing the audience after inaugurating the cultural programmes, felt that celebrations of festivals like Onam that are backed by lofty ideals, are required to be organized, for instilling a sense of security, faith and meaning to life.
He also said that, Onam is celebrated in praise of Mahabali, who dominated the society with his power. People celebrate the onam fest irrespective of caste and creed. The same socialist and secular rule of King Mahabali is related to constitutional law.
He appreciated the students of the college for the efforts put in by them to conserve and support the cultural richness of the country.
BJP state Minorities chairman Anwar Manippady, Lakshmi Kumaran, general manager of MRPL and Principal of the college, Dr B K Ravindra, participated as the chief guest.
Onam Organizing Committee president Dr P D Sebastian, convener Sibi MP and others were present.
‘Onam Sadya’, a feast involving 24 various delicacies that are specifically prepared for Onam festival, like Avil, Rasam, Koot Curry, Olan, Kalan, banana dish, two kinds of sweet dishes, three kinds of pickles, was served to the guests on the occasion.
The tiger dance, elephant, people disguised in Mahabali and theyyam attracted the huge audience.
