Bangalore: A businessman was murdered and robbed of gold valuables on Commercial Street.
The victim, Kumara Velu (45), owns Bharani Medicals on Lakshman Mudaliyar Street. He was closing the shop around 10 p.m. on Sunday when he was attacked by some men. They slit his throat before taking two gold chains, two gold rings and cash from the shop.
The murder was discovered by Velu’s father, Jagadishan, who lives nearby and went to the shop when his son did not answer the phone. He found the shutter half-closed and the lights inside switched off. On opening the shutter, he found his son lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
The Commercial Street police said the street is a busy one, but as it was Sunday, many shops were closed. The medical shop did not have CCTV cameras, a senior police officer said.
In October last year, the owner of a grocery shop on Kamaraj Road near Commercial Street was attacked and robbed by three armed men who approached him posing as customers. The trio tied him up before taking his mobile phone and Rs. 33,000 from the cash box. They locked the shop from the outside while leaving.
