Mangalore : A meeting held under the presidentship of DCP Dharmaiah at the RTO office in Mangalore on July 17, Wednesday has decided that bus operators issue ID cards to drivers and conductors compulsorily.
The ID cards need to have details pertaining to their blood group, address and other details along with photographs.The meeting also resolved that bus operators should provide PF, ESI facilities to the drivers.
The RTO Mallikarjun instructed the bus drivers to always wear uniforms failing which action will be initiated.
Ivan D’Souza, President of Karmika Parishat who represented the bus employees urged the RTO to issue driving licences to those who have passed seventh standard and know driving. He said licences are presently issued only to those who have passed tenth standard.
The RTO assured to discuss the issue with the DC and make an appeal to the Government.
Assistant Labour Commissioner Nagesh said as of now only 2134 bus conductors and drivers have registered their names under pension scheme for unorganized labourers.
The RTO said the decision on issuing e-tickets will be taken at the next meeting.
Bus Owners Association President Rajavarma Ballal urged the bus employees to be punctual and assured their demands would get due consideration.
