Mangalore : The Airport authorities, local leaders, families of victims and others gathered at plane crash site on May 22, Sunday to offer a silent prayer and observe two minutes of silence to pay tribute to the ill-fated Boeing overshot the runway and plunged into Kenjar Valley, killing 158 people last year.
The prayers was set exactly 6:20 a.m. today at the time of plane plunged into the gorge.
The victims’ family members and friends, placed wreaths on the pedestal and paid their respects to their loved ones.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Deputy Speaker Yogish Bhat, Additional DC Prabhkar Sharma, Airport Director M. R. Vasudeva, AI CEO S. Chandrakumar, AI Station Manager Chellam Prasad, and others offered bouquets and lit candles on the pedestal raised at the site.
Speaking on the occasion, Chandrakumar said that the local Gram Panchayat had proposed the contruction of a memorial building comprising a community hall and a reading room at Maravoor.
