Mangalore : The inaugural of two-day Nrithya Sammelana titled ‘Past, Present and Future of Classical Dance in Karnataka’ organized by State Nrithyakala Parishad in association with Sridevi Nrithya Kendra Mangalore at SDM College auditorium on October 30, Saturday.
Lakshminarayana Asranna, chief priest of Kateel Shri Durga Parameshwari Temple inaugurated the event. Delivering the benedictory speech on the occasion, he said that In this modern age, the status of art and culture has drastically decreased. We must have devotion in art and culture like god.
He also said that one must not hold programme to gather the audience, but must organize it o change the mindset of people and attract toward the art and culture. We must not feel bad for having less audience must happy to count the number of audience with the interest.
Eminent art critic and historian Dr Sunil Kothari presided over the occasion. In his key note address, he said that the artistes and the people interested in the dance must follow their ambition till they reach their goal.
Guest of Honour Raghunath Shet, said that Bharathanatyam is considered as mother of all the dance forms and all the successful organization must work to organize such events to preserve it.
Guru Jayalakshmi Alva presided over the proceedings.
The event began with an inaugural dance by the students of Sarasa College of Fine Arts.
Guru Lalitha Srinivasan welcomed the gathering. Poornima Gururaj, secretary, KNKP compered the programme.
Dr Arathi Shetty, director, Shree Devi Nrithya Kendra, Jayalaxmi Alva, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Harikrishna Punaroor, former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, and were present.
