Mangalore: Some sort of tension prevailed at a polling booth at Bendur on May 5, Sunday when the staff at the polling booth pulled the ID card of a nursing students from Kerala and said she cannot cast her vote here.
As many as 25 nursing students from Athena Hospital had stood in a queue at the booth to cast their votes. When the polling officer denied them an opportunity to exercise their franchise, they called the Kadri police who spoke to the polling officers and allowed them to vote.
The students later said though they were from Kerala they were staying in Mangalore since four years and have a voter ID and even voted for the civic body elections.
