Mangalore : Demanding a complete repair of damaged roads immediately from Thokkottu to Mulki on way to Padubidri, Bus-owners, service buses and inter-state bus services have gone off the road in despair on Wednesday, Oct. 27 here, leaving a skeleton service in city areas to Padil, Valencia and Vamnjoor. Schools and colleges remained closed and there is far less traffic in city on a rainy day than on Tuesday.
Addressing protesters in city, lawyer Ivan D’Souza, and Congress leader who heads Bus Workers Union, said that bus owners and commuters had joined the demonstrators against the govt to repair bad roads.
Bus Owners Association chief Rajavarma Ballal stated that ten persons had died in road accidents unwittingly in potholes and at nights. He asked people not to pay road taxes anymore.
Protesters Planted a Sapling of plantain tree in the pot hole in middle of road at Peguses hotel near Yekkur, to draw the attention of authorities to the horrible condition in which a traffic had to move on the roads in city.
A procession ( Pad- yatra) was taken by Congress leaders from Nanthoor to Talapady with MLA UT Khader, Moideen Bava and Members of Bus Unions joining in.
