Mangaluru: J R Lobo, the Congress candidate of Mangaluru South and sitting MLA led a huge Padayatra in the Carstreet area on May 7, Monday evening as part of his campaigning spree. Over 2,000 Congress workers and well-wishers of Lobo took part in the Padayatra which commenced from near the Shree Venkataramana Temple at Carstreet and culminated at the same point after passing through Navabharath Circle, Lower Carstreet, New Chitra area and flower market area.
Addressing a public meeting later on, Lobo said he was greatly enthused by the love and affection shown by the people throughout his Padayatra. Having a word of praise for Carstreet considered as a commercial centre, he said there was need to further develop Mangaluru in the fields of IT, tourism and other sectors in order to ensure local educated youth get ample employment opportunities in the city.
He said his aim was to attract more investments in the city and added that with an international airport, major port and good road connectivity the city has a conducive atmosphere for investment.
Lobo also highlighted his various achievements and claimed that the city has seen much development in the past five years when compared to the earlier 20 years when the city was represented by an MLA of another party.
He spoke on the development of roads, laying of footpaths, solid waste management, development of parks, lakes and opening of 3D Planetarium at Pilikula and appealed to give him another chance to represent the constituency to ensure further development.
District Youth Congress President Mithun Rai, Block Congress Presidents Vishwas Kumar Das, Abdul Saleem, Corporators Ramdas Prabhu, Vinayraj, Lancelot Pinto, Prakash Salian, Kavitha, Asha D’Silva, Praveenchandra Alva, Rathikala and several Congress leaders were present.
