Udupi : By 10.30 am on 21’th March 2012 when day and night are equal (12 hours each), congress candidate Jayaprakash Hegde has won the Udupi-Chikkamagalur by –poll held on March18, for the MP seat vacated by present CM D V Sadananda Gowda (on His election as MLC), who is presently tabling the Budget of 2012-13 in the Vidhana Sabha with the full consent of his party from 11 am today. Yes, the BJP has lost the Udupi as by poll expected, in spite of all efforts made by several party leaders and workers but odds were against BJP in a three-cornered contest I which JD-S candidate Bhoje Gowda from Chikkamagalur also took part along with 11 other candidates (one JD-11 and others independent)
Jayprakash Hegde secured 3,94,724 votes leading by 45,724 votes over BJP’ s Sunil Kumar who received3,52,999 votes after final round of counting . But Hegde went on to increase his lead by over 45,724 votes by 11-30am on Wednesday. The result is yet to be declared officially by Udupi D C, Dr. M.T.Reju JD-S received 72,080 votes only.
