Kolar: Congress workers took out a massive rally on Saturday, demanding that the Centre issue a white paper on demonetisation.
The protesters led by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) working president Dinesh Gundu Rao, went in a procession from the party office to the deputy commissioner’s office shouting slogans against the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Dinesh said Modi’s claim that demonetisation would end terrorism in Kashmir and Naxalism in other parts of the country has proved wrong and no prime minister in the country’s history had taken such a ‘hurried’ decision.
“The note ban decision has created economic crisis in the country. Modi had promised to unearth black money totalling to Rs 80 lakh crore in just 100 days of coming to power. But it has been two years now and he has failed to bring back even a single rupee. In stead, he has looted hard-earned money of the poor,” Dinesh charged. He said the prime minister’s speech on the night of December 31 was like a budget speech.
“The prime minister did not announce any welfare schemes. He didn’t even discuss results of note ban,” he said.He demanded that the prime minister apologise to people and rectify his ‘mistake’ in the next budget. Member of Parliament K H Muniyappa said country’s exports had decreased following note ban.
“Not even once did the prime minister speak about note ban in the Parliament. Modi does not have the moral right to continue as the prime minister. He should immediately resign,” he demanded.
District In-charge Minister K R Ramesh Kumar, legislators S N Narayanaswamy, Varthur Prakash, G Manjunath, former chairman of Karnataka Legislative Council V R Sudarshan, and others took part in the protest.
