New Delhi: The Congress now believes and speaks in terms of futility of forming the Joint Bill Drafting committee to formulate a strong Lok Pal Bill to be presented in the Parliament this month.
The civilian representatives are not alternate sources to bring about important legislation, the UPA says. To get such a bill passed in Parliament, it is necessary to get opinion of an elected body like the Parliament under constitutional rules. The civilians can advise and cannot tinker with the bill-making procedures of the Govt., ours is not a nominal democracy but one constituted under law, Said Jayanthi Natarajan Congress spokesperson here on Friday. In Reply to a query from reporters, she said even the Justice MN Venkatachalaiah Committee looking into Constitutional reforms was against Prime Minister coming under Lok Pal Bill.
Congress does not any more joint meetings of Lok Pal Bill Committee. Anna’s suggestion of a second war of freedom was unacceptable, she said.
