Mangalore: A huge protest rally would be organised in May 16, Monday at 10:30 am at DK DT DC office gates by Congress members of MCC and activists against BJP’s maladministration and corrupt practices in Mangalore City Corporation, said Vijay Kumar Shetty ex-MLA. Lancelot Pinto, Leader of Opposition (Congress) in City Corporation, while speaking to pressmen at the Congress office on Tuesday at 4pm.
The speakers reminded the citizens (at large) the ruling politicians kept deceiving the people by giving false promises all the time to remain on power and control city corporation, ignoring public opinion on issues that mattered and increasing property tax by 15% all of a sudden on self-declared assets in 3 years, They had earlier accused the Congress of charging tax in haste, to come to power as BJP corporators. They are also collecting money for solid waste management. It is their peculiarity to produce tax receipts fro every shops and commercial complex, as also residencies without providing for solid (home or shop) waste materials disposals, Vijayakumar Shetty stated in his remarks.
The solid waste expenses of a common shopkeeper who pays Rs.100p.a as tax, is Rs. 600 p.a!. The BJP knows nothing of the municipal administration much less about ruling the state, Lancelot Pinto said in his attack on the ruling BJP ways.
They said Congress would continue to fight for justice. Even housing on a small plot of say, 3 to 5 cents of land, has now become a problem to lower middle class families. They called for an end to BJP rule in MCC, by fighting together even leaving party labels aside.
The press meet was well attended by Congress Party workers. Leaflets were distributed to members.
