Mangalore : Speaking at a press meet, Moideen Bawa, the district president of the Congress Minority Cell, said that the party will urge the state government to complete the railway under bridge and over bridge at Alape, a project that has been pending for a long time.
He assured that the party has already submitted a memorandum to K. H. Muniyappa, the minister of state for railways; Veerappa Moily, the union minister for corporate affairs; and Oscar Fernandes, the Rajya Sabha MP, regarding the same.
Further, he said that the party has also requested a bi-weekly train to Kolkata, considering the fact that a number of North East Indians visit Mangalore on a regular basis.
He also thanked the UPA government for approving Suratkal and Byndoor stops for the Yeshwanthpur to Karwar Express as an experiment for the next six months.
It may be recalled that the Surathkal Block Congress had organized a protest demanding that the train should stop at Suratkal on Dec 18, 2011.
Ivan D’Souza, the vice president of the district Congress; Shareef, the secretary of the Congress Minority Cell; and Hidayath, the GP member, were also present.
