Mangaluru: “Congress is the only political party which worked hard for the empowerment of women when compared to other parties,” said district in-charge Minister Ramanath Rai.

He was speaking at the Women Congress Party Workers Meet organised by Mangaluru City Block Congress at Shanti Nilaya on Sunday.

“People from all the religion and caste are present in Congress and it has given highest respect to women. Indira Gandhi was a prominent leader of Congress. Poor are never cheated by the Congress and rich are never cheated by BJP,” he said.

He further said that state level convention on the occasion of Indira Gandhi birth anniversary will be organised in Mangaluru. It is a great opportunity for women party workers to show their calibre.

Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza said that Congress has brought the women to main stream. Though the Congress government has done a great job, it is lacking of publicity. Party workers should concentrate more on giving publicity to the works of Congress government’s works.

MLA J R Lobo, MLA Shakunthala Shetty, Shalet Pinto, Padhmavathi, Rajeevi, MUDA Chairman Ibrahim Kodijal and others were present.
