Mangalore : Dr. G Bhaskar Mayya, Professor, Vijaya College Mulky said that Cow meat was prestigious food for the ancient and middle age Hindus of India according to Vedas.
He was speaking at a seminar held on anti-animal slaughter bill introduced by the state government, organized by the Samudaya Mangalooru, an affiliate of CPI (M) at Kandaya Bhavan in the city on October 15, Friday.
Most of the Hindus believe that consuming beef is against their religion. But the fact is that the Hindu scriptures permit a person to have meat and beef.
He also criticized the uncivilized protests against the anti cow slaughter bill. The protest becomes worthwhile only when it is conducted in a civilized manner.
Prof. Narendra Nayak, President, Samudaya Mangalooru presided over the programme.
Vasudeva Uchila delivered introductory address. K Yadava Shetty, Secretary, DK Dist Committee of Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha was among those present.
