Mangalore: The state High Court has ordered status quo on the MSEZ corridor road and pipeline project that has come under stiff resistance from residents of Melukoppala and Athrebail on the Phalguni Banks at Kulur over the issue of dumping of mud on Phalguni.
The Court order has been in response to a Public Interest Litigation filed against the project by social activists including Vidya Dinker of Citizens’ Forum, Godfrey D’Souza and Arun D’Souza. The status quo will continue until the next orders. The litigation also drew the attention of the court regarding the recent arrest of the social activists following a complaint by the Deputy Commissioner.
Residents of the area however say the works are still in progress despite the court orders brought to the notice of the administration.
Speaking to the Press, Vidya also said court would also be requested to send a court commission to visit the area.
Social activists Arun D’Souza and Godfrey D’Souza were also present at the press meet.
