Udupi : Country boat fishermen who will venture into fishing in the wake of ban on deep sea fishing, offered Samudra Pooja to the sea at Malpe on June 19, Wednesday before venturing into fishing.
Various rituals and special pooja were offered at Bennekudru Mahasthri temple, Uchila’s Shrimahalaxmi temple and Malpe’s Vadabaandeshwara temple before the prasada was offered to the sea as part of Samudra Pooja. The prayers were led by Govinda Suvarna, Vice President, Malpe Naadadoni Meenugaarara Sangha.
The fishermen prayed to the sea lord to ensure their safety during fishing in traditional boats.
Over 20,000 fishermen in 8,000 traditional boats will venture into fishing from Udupi district.
