Puttur : Balasubrahmanya Bhat (48) and his wife Hemavathi (40) hailing from Mura in Kabaka of Puttur have reportedly committed suicide by consuming poison on October 5, Saturday..

The police have arrested a neighbor Jinnappa Poojari for allegedly torturing the couple and forcing them to take the extreme step. Hemavathi has left behind a death note saying Jinnappa was responsible for her death. It is learnt, the couple had a land dispute with Jinnappa since long and Jinnappa used to insult Hemavathi over the issue.

That the couple had committed suicide came to light when their seven year old son Akshara Sharma returned home in the afternoon. He informed neighbours. However Hemavathi was dead by then while Bhat died in the hospital.
