Beltangady : A couple from Bangalore were killed and 11 injured when the Tempo Traveller in which they were travelling hit a culvert at Charmadi Ghat here on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Kanakaraj(49) and his wife Chikkamma (46), residents of Mallathhalli Kengunte in Bangalore.
They were returning with relatives in a Tempo Traveller after visiting the Dharmastala Temple when the vehicle’s driver reportedly lost control of it at the fifth curve of the Ghat. The injured were rushed to a hospital in Belthangady.
One person died in Sullia after being struck by lightning when he was standing near a electricity plug point at his home on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Dayananda (38) of Guttigaru in Sullia. He succumbed in a hospital.
In a separate incident, two people were injured after being struck by lightning at the Mangalore Airport. Yogish and Raghavendra of Mulki were unloading cargo at the airport when the mishap occurred. They were rushed to a private hospital.
Many areacanut trees were uprooted following strong winds in Vittal, Puttur and Belthangady. Official sources said more than 15 farmers have registered their complaints on crop and asset loss due to wind and lightning.
