Mangalore : JMFC Court has issued Non-bailable arrest warrant against Dr Ranjeetha Shenoy hailing from Davangere and her father for filing false complaint against her husband and in-laws on charges of dowry harassment.
It is learnt that, Dr Ranjeetha Shenoy hailing from Davanagere was married to Dr Gurukanth Rao, an Assistant Professor of Medicine at KMC, Manipal. After the marriage Dr Ranjeetha stayed with her husband only for 15 days and started pestering him to reside in her parental house in Davanagere.
But when Rao refused her proposal, Ranjeetha demanded divorce and Rs One crore rupees compensation. She also threatened to lodge false dowry case against him if she fails to pay the amount. Recently Ranjeetha started working as Assistant Professor in Father Muller’s Hospital without informing Rao and when he came to know about this, Rao requested her to join him back but she demanded divorce and one crore compensation.
As Rao refused to fulfill her demand, she lodged a false criminal case against her husband and her father in law Dr N R Rao at Pandeshwar Police Station.
During the enquiry, Ranjeetha’s parents Rathnakar Shenoy and Jamuna Rani Shenoy also gave false statements regarding dowry demand and harassment. When police interrogated their relatives and neighbours, it was revealed that there was no dowry in the marriage and all the marriage expenses were borne by Rao.
Senior Physician of Manipal and father of Dr Gurukanth Rao Dr N R Rao, said that he was deeply hurt and defamed due to the false complaint against him and his son. After enquiry, JMFC Court found that there are prima facie materials showing that Dr Ranjeetha Shenoy and her parents lodged a false complaint of dowry and harassment.
The JMFC Court upheld the arguments of Rao’s Advocate P P Hegde and passed the order to register criminal case against Dr Ranjeetha Shenoy and her parents Rathnakar Shenoy and Jamuna Rani Shenoy for the criminal offence of perjury and defamation as per C.C.No.1214/14 with the punishment of maximum of two years imprisonment.
Meanwhile, Dr Ranjeetha Shenoy has left Father Muller’s Hospital, Kankanady and said to be absconding and also failed to appear to the Court on its summons. Hence she has been issued with non-bailable warrant for the arrest along with her father Rathnakar Shenoy. The court has also directed Barke Police to arrest and produce them before the Court.
The Mangalore Police have conducted a raid at Dr Ranjeetha’s house at Davangere yesterday and found them missing. The Mangalore Police team is in Davanagere in search of them.
