Udupi : Udupi CPI(M) district unit launched a indefinite protest, as a part of state wide protest at the Service bus-stand on May 5, Monday, demanding ban on ‘Panktibedha’.
Addressing the protestors, CPI (M) State secretary G V Sriram Reddy, said that earlier it was BJP led State Government, which was supporting the Shree Krishna Math Swamiji on holding the Pankthi Bedha in the temple, but now the congress led government is also following the same path and working in hand with them.
During the election, the congress government had given false promises to impose ban on such evil practices like ‘Madesnana’, and ‘Panktibeda’, but after coming into power, although Chief Minister Siddaramaiah proposed an anti superstitious bill to bring an end to these practices, the bill failed to implement.
Reddy also condemned the decision of Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar, who has announced a reward of Rs 50,000 to ANF cop Naveen Nayak, who was involved in Kabir shootout case. The government instead of booking a murder case on Naveen Nayak, has initiated an enquiry.
He also said that the members of CPI(M) will continue their protest till the government impose ban on such evil practices.
Shivram, President of the Karnataka State Backward Classes Forum said that Shree Krishna Math which is known for spreading human values is indulged in human values, which is an insult to Kanakadasa. Hence the government must immediately act upon the decision.
CPI(M) leaders Vishwanath Rai, Balakrishna Shetty, K. Shanker, Nithyanada Shetty and others were present.
