Mangalore: Members of the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district unit of the Communist Party of India organized a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mangalore on September 14, Friday condemning the hike in the price of diesel by the Union Government.
Speaking on the occasion, P Sanjeeva, Secretary of the Committee, came down heavily on the Centre for hiking the diesel prices by Rs 5 per liter at one go and warned of severe protest by the party in case the government failed to roll back the hike. He said the hike in price of fuel would lead to the hike in prices of all other essential commodities thereby striking a severe blow on the common man.
Satish Kumar Bantwal, advocate, who also spoke, said the party totally backed the protest by the KSRTC employees association seeking a hike in their salary. He also said that the party would take to the streets for the cause of the KSRTC workers, in the event of the government invoking ESMA on them.
Several other party leaders and workers took part in the protest.
