Mangalore : The members of CPI (M), local unit, staged a protest in front of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), demanding to protect the drinking water facilities to Tannirbhavi on Feb 21, Tuesday.
Addressing the protestors, Sunil Kumar Bajal said that people of Tannirbhavi have been deprived of basic facilities for a long time and have not even benefited from the government’s welfare schemes.
He said that the residents have not even been given door numbers, which makes it very difficult for them to obtain basic civic amenities.
The MCC had disconnected water supply to Tannirbhavi on Feb 16 according to a directive issued by Linge Gowda, the executive engineer.
They later submitted a memorandum to the commissioner of the MCC, in which they objected to the MCC’s decision to disconnect the drinking water line to Tannirbhavi.
Shameema Bhanu, the member of the Tannirbhavi Horata Samithi, and Sunil Kumar Bajal, along with members of the Dalita Hakkugala Samithi were present at the protest.
