Mangalore : Several leaders and members of the Communist Party of India(Marxist) protested outside the DC office in Mangalore on December 28, Friday to oppose the lathi charge against Made Snana protestors in Udupi on Thursday.
It may be recalled here that police had lath charged party workers who were taking out a padayatra towards the Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt on Thursday.
Speaking at the protest meet in front of DC office, B Madhava, District Committee President of CPI(M) said the government was hesitating to ban superstitious practices as was evident by its means to curb opposition to such practices. He also strongly criticized the police action of lathi charging peaceful protestors.
KR Sriyan, State Committee Member of the CPI(M) who also spoke, urged Pejawar seer to stop pankti Bedha in Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt.
Several CPI(M) leaders including Sunil Kumar Bajal, Santosh Kumar, CT Suvarna, Vasanth Acharya took part in the protest.
