Mangalore: A crab-catcher, Taranath Sherigar (34), son of Guruva get into Udyavara river catch crabs and drowned by the fast flow of water, near Pithrodi in Tuesday morning.

Taranath had worked in a furniture workshop near Hanuman garage at Chitpody in Udupi taluk.

There were six in a group who had entered the river on Tuesday morning to catch crabs. Five of them swam to the shore as the river was in high tide during crab-catch exercise, and washed away the group in surprise.

Taranath’s dead body was found around 6pm near Sunset. Kaup police have registered a case of un-natural death
