Mangalore: The Jain Kashi Trust in the district has appealed to the DK DT administration to help stop the black rock stones in the mines near the Basadi vicinity in Mudabidri and make a by-pass road for NH-13 to prevent traffic noises.
A granite roof slab of the historic Thousand pillared Jain shrine had been earlier dislodged at Mudabidri on Saturday by rock-fellers who blasted black marble mines. The rock blasts and traffic movements on roads 200 meters away from the Jain Basadi had cracked the slabs in the historic temple, said Trustee Charukeerthi Bhattaraka on Sunday.
The Seer has asked National Highways Authority to provide for a by-pass so that heavy movement trucks do not rock the fragile temple site. The Savira Kambada Basadi needed urgent repairs from Archaeological survey of India under government help, the Jain priest (monk) stated. The cracked stone slabs were in the process of being replaced but the work needed more funds to preserve historic legacies, the monk pointed out.
