Moodbidri : Popular and haunting melodies won the hearts of the crowd at the musical evening on the last day of Alva’s Virasat 2017 in town on Sunday.

Playback singer Payal Dev from Mumbai gave a pleasant start to the musical treat with ‘Ab Tore Naina’. She went on to sing ‘Aao Na Zara’ and the popular number ‘Mahi Ve’. The ‘Chaiya Ve’, popularised by Arjit Singh, made the audience spellbound. Payal said the track was her personal favourite too. This was followed by ‘Re Kabira’, ‘Bhuleya’, ‘Hamma hamma’, ‘Chittiya Kalaiyave’ and her own ‘Sara Zamana Hasinon Ka Deewana,’ which made everyone tap their feet. Payal said she was very excited to perform at Alva’s Virasat.

Singer Shaan surprised the audience by speaking in Tulu, ‘Materegla Namaskara, Moodbidridakulu Encha Ullar? (Namaskar to everyone, how are you?). He mesmerised the audience with his signature style and presented the title number of ‘Don,’ Kannada song ‘Eno Onthara,’ ‘Kudinotave Manamohaka’ ‘Tera Mujhse Pehla Hai Nata Koi’ ‘Dil Kahe Kya… I Love You’ and other popular tracks, as the crowds cheered.

Shaan also paid tribute to George Michael by singing his songs.

Later, Gargi, Archana and Samanvi of the Latangi School of Music in Udupi gave a Carnatic classical music recital, which was followed by ‘Nritya Sambhrama’ by the students of Alva’s College who performed Pushpanjali (Bharathanatya) Manipuri stick dance and Sri Lankan folk dance, directed by Sheela Unnikishnan, Pritam Singh and Jayampathi Bhandara respectively.

The Alva’s Varna Virasat Award 2017 was conferred on artiste Reva Shankar Sharma on the last day of Alva’s Virasat 2017 in Moodbidri on Sunday.

Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva, Moodbidri MLA K Abhayachanda Jain and entrepreneur K Sripati Bhat were present on the occasion.
