Mangalore : The custom officials two persons and seized 1.3 kg gold valued at Rs 38.31 lakh in 2 separate cases at Mangalore International Airport on September 10, Wednesday.
In the first case, the officers arrested a person identified as Athiyalparambu Kunhabdulla (39), a resident of Kolavayal in Kasargod who arrived at the airport by Jet Airways flight from Dubai at 7.45 am and seized gold smuggled in the form of foil strips, covered in cardboards containing toys and stickers fixed to them, and around the walls of potato wafers tins totally weighing 709.6 grams and valued at Rs 19,51,400.
In the second case, the gold was seized from a passenger Eachilingal Kunhamoo Moosa (32), a resident of Uduma in Kasargod who arrived at the airport by the same Jet Airways flight from Dubai and seized totally gold weighing 683.6 grams and valued at Rs 18,79,900 smuggled with the similar method.
Altogether, the customs officials seized 1,393.2 grams of gold valued at Rs 38,31,300 on the same day.
The search operations were conducted byb the team of officials under the supervision of Krishna Kumar Prasad, deputy commissioner of customs, Mangalore International Airport.
