Mangalore : The officers of Customs at Mangalore International Airport have again busted an unique modes operated of gold smuggling and seized gold totally weighing 878.000 grams in two separate cases valued at Rs.23,48,650/-. In the first case, the officers seized gold in the form of wire rods, beads, pieces in assorted sizes and shapes totally weighing 436.000 grams and valued at Rs.11,66,300/- concealed in watch straps, toy cars, pen refills, electric plugs, key chain, magnetic wrist band, fancy chain/bracelet, alarm clock, zip holder(puller) of bag pack etc., which were kept and brought in checked in baggage, from the possession of a passenger, named Shri. Mohammed Ashraf Parakatta, residing at Ashit Manzil, 204 AC, 9/314A, P.O. Kudlu, Kasaragod Dt., Kerala-671125, who arrived at Mangalore International Airport on 2o Saturday, Sep.14 at about 0445 hrs by Air India flight No.IX 814 from Dubai.
In a similar modes operated on the same day, the officers seized gold in the form of wire rods, beads, pieces in assorted sizes and shapes, totally weighing 442.000 grams and valued at Rs.11,82,350/- concealed in watch straps, toy cars, pen refills, electric plugs, key chain, magnetic wrist band, fancy chain/bracelet, alarm clock etc., which were kept in the checked in baggage, from the possession of another passenger named Shri. Suhaib Thalangara Mohamood, residing at Kadavath, Thalangara Post, Kasaragod Dt., Kerala-671122, who arrived at Mangalore International Airport on 20.09.2014 at about 0815 hrs by Jet Airways flight No.9W531 from Dubai.
Operations were conducted under the supervision of Shri. Krishna Kumar Prasad, Deputy Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore International Airport. Further investigation is under progress in the above said cases. Press Release
