Mangalore: The Customs at Mangalore International Airport have successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle one gold bar of 1,000 gms concealed in a life jacket bag place below the seat of Jet Airways flight, which arrived at the MIA on Monday, October 13, at 9 am from Dubai. The gold bar is valued Rs 27,10,000.
The bar of one weighing one kg was brought by passenger named Madapalli Mohommed Ismail, a resident of Napoklu in Kodagu who has been arrested and produced before Judicial Magistrate. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody.
Deputy Commissioner of Customs Krishna Kumar Prasad along with a police team, led by superintendents HB Venkatesh, RS Venkataram, A Panduranga Naik, R G Gaonkar, K Ramakrishnan, K Nirmala and inspectors, Subhendu Ranjan Behera, Kamlesh Kumar Meena, Rajesh Jha and Havaldar Manjunath conducted the operation.
