Mangaluru: A Dakshina Kannada bandh called by various Hindu organizations on Saturday has affected normal life in Dakshina Kannada especially in Mangaluru city. Incidents of stone pelting, clashes have been reported at various parts of Magaluru city.
The bandh has been called by the Hindu organizations including Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and others opposing Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s participation in a communal harmony rally scheduled to be held on Saturday. Some vehicles have also been burnt partially in Mangaluru city as the protesters took streets on early morning.
Stones have been pelted on a KSRTC bus at Kankanady whereas vehicle tyres have also been burnt in Padil road of the city. As many as 10 protesters have taken by the police into their custody in-connection with the incidents. KSRTC and private buses have stopped plying on roads whereas private vehicles rarely found on roads. Meanwhile, the district administration has imposed section 144 excluding communal harmony rally and meeting in Dakshina Kannada.
