Mangaluru : The Dakshina Kannada Congress party activists on Thursday carried out protests against the alleged “inappropriate” behaviour of Prabhu Chavan, the BJP MLA from Aurad, in the Legislative Assembly in Belagavi on December 10. The protest was held before the District Congress office.
Addressing the protestors, district Congress in-charge president Ibrahim Kodijal said the conduct of the BJP MLA showed the lack of seriousness of the legislator about the Legislative Assembly proceedings.
While Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked MPs and legislators to maintain decorum in the Parliament and Legislature, the same was not seen among the BJP legislators, he said.
Members of the Udupi district unit of the Congress also staged a dharna in front of the Clock Tower on Thursday.
Veronica Carnelio, president of the District Mahila Congress, said the BJP had not learnt any lesson even after three of its legislators were caught watching porn in the Assembly some years back. “Though the BJP speaks about culture, the behaviour of its legislators holds a mirror to its mindset,” she said.
When a serious discussion was going on in the Legislative Assembly on the problems of sugarcane growers, Mr. Chavan was busy watching photographs of Priyanka Gandhi, she said.
Amrit Shenoy, Congress leader, said, “Activists of Bajrang Dal beat up any college boy and girl going together to a restaurant for having a cup of coffee and indulge in ‘moral policing.’ Strangely, it was silent on the porn incident involving three BJP MLAs and also on the Chavan incident,” he said.
