Mangaluru : Superintendent of Police Dr S D Sharanappa said that the people in Dakshina Kannada now can interact with the police on social media with the DK police expanding its service purview on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
Speaking to reporters at the launch of revised Dakshina Kannada police blog, Facebook and Twitter accounts here on Saturday, he said that the modified blog will provide information on Right to Information, road safety, women’s rights, cyber crime, childline, etc and also about the history of Dakshina Kannada Police Department. “The district Police was planning to make its officials accessible to the public through their individual twitter accounts.
“The police need to change its functioning in accordance with the changing times,” the SP opined.
The public can make use of the sites to inform the police about any criminal activity.
The public can also utilise the system to give suggestions with regard to better policing, he said.
The main objective behind entering into social networking sites was to spread awareness and foster communal harmony alongside taking police closer to the public. The police activities are also uploaded on Facebook and Twitter-http://dkpolice.blogspot.in, he explained.
