Mangalore: Dalit leaders have made a vehement demand for a ban on the superstitious Made Snana practice in Kukke Subrahamanya Temple, as just a month is left for the Shashti celebrations when this ritual is followed in the temple.
The leaders were taking part in a SC ST Grievance redressal meeting held at the SP office on November 4, Sunday.
Responding to the appeal, SP Abhishek Goel said the department was unaware of the government stance on this controversial issue and said a letter would be addressed to the government seeking a clarification on its stance.
A Member of the SC community also sought steps to prevent eve teasing and atrocities on women in rural areas by intensifying patrolling.
Earlier there was some confusion as the meeting was held at 9.30 am though it was scheduled to take place at 11 am. Several representatives arrived after the meeting concluded.
