Mangalore : The MCC’s reported failure to implement schemes for the welfare of Dalits under the 22.75 scheme, has come under criticism. The Dalita Hakkugala Horata Samithi even staged a protest against this in front of the MCC office on November 20.
Speaking on the occasion, Lingappa Nantur, Secretary of the Samithi accused the government of reducing allocation of funds under the 22.75 programme. If Rs 4 crore used to be allocated in 2008, the amount has now reduced to Rs 2.85 crore, he added.
Krishnappa Konchady, Member of the Samithi, charged MCC of failure to implement welfare programmes in dalit colonies.CPM Mangalore City Committee Secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal also spoke.
The agitators submitted a memorandum to Srikanth Rao, Joint Commissioner, enlisting their demands.
The Commissioner later informed that the MCC has already apprised the government and assured that the problems would be solved within a month.
