Mangalore: At the SC ST Grievance redressal meet held at the Police Commissioner’s office on June 30, Sunday a Dalit woman alleged that her employer had taken away her child which she delivered five years ago.
SP Anand, a Dalit leader informed the meeting that Shwetha from Moodigere who worked as domestic help in the residence of Anitha Shelly at Kottara had given birth to a baby in November 2008. Shwetha had developed physical relationship with a youth of the city, resulting in her pregnancy. She said her employer told her not to abort the child. However after delivery, the child went missing when Anitha had sent Shwetha to do some work outside.
Anitha had told Shwetha that the child was given to an ashram in Talapady and on insistence said it has been sold to Saudi Arabia. Shwetha also said she knew that Anitha had also sold two other children. The police authorities assured a probe into the case.
In another case, a Dalit girl alleged that she faced harassment at work by a higher official at the Home Guard office where she worked.
