Mangalore : In a letter given to DCO on Mangalore after a protest rally by CPI (M) activists and dalits in city near DCO on Monday, it is stated that a Dalit Woman Yamuna (42) was prevented access to a drinking water well by a higher caste woman Shalini Shetty, and a complaint was filed on 31-05-2010 at 6pm in the Kankanady rural police station, which did not take up follow-up action then said Lingappa Nanthoor, Secretary of CPI-M.
The Yamuna episode should be taken seriously by the District administration to prevent more such cases of atrocity in DK dt (as in Belthangady where cyanide was thrown into a Dalit community well by higher caste citizens) he said.
A demand was made for the arrest of the accused (Shalini Shetty) by CPI (M) in this case of denial of drinking water to Yamuna, a staff member of MCC, in Yekkur.
CPI (M) secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal addressed the rally, as also Munir Katipalla of DYFI and aggrieved Yamuna herself.
Secretary Vasant Achary, Imtiaz (DYF), L.T. Suvarna (Auto rickshaw Union leader), among others were present, during the protest rally led by Yadava Shetty CPI-M leader who presented a memorandum to the DC at DCO Today.
