New Delhi: A Dalit woman was stripped and paraded naked in Satara district of Maharashtra. The woman was also allegedly beaten up and has been admitted to a hospital in Karad.
Her son is believed to have eloped with an upper cast girl and the perpetrators of the attack were allegedly the relatives of the girl.
The girl’s family was opposed to the match and when the mother went to fetch water, she was beaten allegedly by the girl’s family.
An FIR has been registered in the case, but the authorities denied that the woman was stripped or paraded naked.
Satara DM Dr Ramaswamy said, “Police’s preliminary enquiry shows that the woman in question was not stripped or paraded naked. She was beaten though. The police questioned four people (all relatives of the upper caste girl) and their statements have been recorded. No arrests have been made. The girl is a minor. The girl and the boy eloped on November 18. The woman received blunt injuries and is now out of danger. The administration is monitoring the situation.”
