Mangalore: The Dalit members of Mangalore Taluk Panchayath created an uproar and boycotted the meeting for non-punctuality in starting it on Wednesday, Aug.24 at 11-45am instead at 10-30am as scheduled.
The meeting was called to discuss the progress made on grants allotted for SC and ST welfare works. Furious at the sluggish attitude of authorities, dalit members shouted slogans against Tahsildar Nayak and Social Welfare officer Reddy, in front of TP office. Tahsildar did not turn up even at 11-45am.
The meeting is convened once in 3 months, but if it is held late, the would not be able to speak on all the grievances. The Tahsildar who came late, did not meet the waiting Dalits. According to him, Ravichandra Nayak, He was in another emergency meeting under DC’s orders.
Hundreds of Dalits who came with applications and issues, returned home sadly and Nayak’s apologies went in vain, as he did not stop to talk to Dalits even late.
