Mangalore : Speaking at the monthly SC/ST grievancemeeting held in the commissioner’s office on June 24, Sunday Dalit leader GirishKumar complained that even after informing the police about the youngsters planningto kill some of the residents of a Dalit colony in Chombugudde in Ullal, they have not taken any action.
He also said that the Dalit colony residents had earliercomplained the police about the group they suspected. They had also said thatthe group were roaming after 10:00 p.m in the streets and also found 3 swordsin the colony; the police have not taken any effort to stop the youths.
In reply ACP T. R. Jagannath said that the police are doingits duty and conducted the enquiry in this issue in Ullal and its surroundingregions, but no case of violence has been reported, till date.
On of the leader also raised a complaint against Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, who had used a word“Dhikka” in the cultural programme and it was telecasted live on local TVchannels. He urged the officials to take action against the academy forinsulting Dalits.
Prior to the meeting, a guard of honor was given toRadhakrishna, head constable of City Armed Reserve Police, who died of brief illnessin AJ Hospital.
