Mangalore : Dance, drama, spot games among other activities along with adopting saplings marked the Vanamahotsava celebrations in a unique manner at Ladyhill Victoria Girls High School in Mangalore on Thursday (July 11). The programme was also a platform for the school to take part in the Centre for Integrated Learning (CIL’s) year-long `Adopt-a-Tree’ Project.
Students of the Tenth Standard meticulously planned the programme which comprised of dance sequences and kits highlighting the significance of environment protection and students’ role in making the world a beautiful place. Principal of the school, Sr. Thelma Dora D’Souza and Convener of Centre for Integrated Learning, S Nandagopal planted a Lakshmitaru sapling (a plant used to treat Cancer) to mark the occasion.
Nandagopal explained the concept of `Adopt-a-Tree’ (AAT) project where students adopt a sapling and record its growth as they nurture them. This is an inter-school event with a series of activities on environment conservation to be taken throughout the year.
The principal handed over a sapling to the Student People Leader and Deputy SPL to launch the AAT project in their school.
Sr. Thelma D’Souza exhorted the students to take keen interest in enjoying nature and take up environment conservation projects.
Student Diana Sushma welcomed the gathering while Srajana and Vashitha were the masters of ceremony.
