Mangaluru : The police have registered the complaint by the injured persons and have arrested 23 persons in connection with Ulaibettu following the clashes that broke out after a bus carrying Dathamaladharis was pelted by stones by miscreants on Friday, December 5.
Manoj Kumar (35) Vishwanath (29), Yashodhar (29), Manohar (30), Jagadish (32), Sowmya (26) and Babita (25) injured in the incident. They were admitted in Wenlock hospital. Of the seven, two persons identified as Yashodar and Vishwanath who sustained grievous injuries were shifted to SCS Hospital.
Speaking to the reporters City Commissioner R Hithendra said,a separate case has been registered for the stoning of a place of worship, more arrests will be made in connection with the clashes,
He also said, the police action, saying there was a complaint against people of a particular community and the police had to force open the doors as the residents did not cooperate.
After the incident Hindu outfits convened a protest in Vamanjoor on Saturday, December 6.
Addressing a protest meet Gurupur Vajradehi Math seer Rajashekaranand Swamiji condemned the heinous act and said that it was unacceptable.
The unarmed dathamaladharis were attacked by people with swords and rods. Majority hindus are becoming the target of minorities. The police is showing lax attitude and not coming forward to help us. If any activists from Hindu groups would launch attacks then the police would not think twice to invoke goonda act as it has been doing in the past, Rajashekaranand Swamiji said.
The swamiji also gaven an call for Gurupur bandh on Monday, December 8.
When Assistant Commissioner of Police Pavan Nijjor arrived at the spot, war of words ensued between the inspector and the protestors.
The ACP assured the protestors that all the culprits would be arrested by Sunday (December 7) evening. The protestors said that if the police failed to arrest the miscreants within the deadline then they would go ahead with observing bundh.
Activists Rajesh Kottary, Satyajit Suratkal and Jitendra Kottary were present among others.
