Mangalore : Former High Court Judge B Padmaraj inaugurated a day long workshop on ‘Goonda Act’ at Conference Hall of Commissionerate office on Jan 12, Saturday.
The workshop was organized by Office of Inspector General of Police, Western Range and Commissioner of Police in association with Advocate General’s office, Bangalore.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, he said that society is not safe and people have to take care on their own.
He also said that sometimes it goes wrong with the law interpreting and law enforcement. Everyone is equal in the eye of law and court will interfere when the constitutional rights are violated.
Some rich class people in society made property career as sole aim of life and do not follow the law and have the feeling that law is done for the lesser class.
He said that courts have to be proactive sometimes for the interest of the society. Courts are custodians of right of constitution and when there is violation of consign take place, the court will interfere to react or will never.
The article 22( 3b) has permitted preventive detention, which is by nature and only has been introduced in Indian constitution, because they know that it is necessary for the country.
Speaking on Goonda Act he said that it is one such law enforced by the state government against the illegal activities by certain criminal and social elements which will harm the society.

Principal district and sessions judge Ashok G Nijagannavar and Sushma Godbale, Joint Secretary law and order for Home department were present at the inaugural ceremony.
